A-Kooz-Tick

Hey Reader,

Just now I met up with Afiq. (He's back from England.) We talked about how much we missed the band and stuff. Ardens was really, and I mean REALLY, put on hold. I realized how much I missed performing (Especially playing drums!) since Adam got us a slot in our college's Gala Night.

Afiq said that Ardens just doesn't have the time as a band. I understand what he meant. We're just not in sync. As a piece-by-piece band, we all have our way of shining, but when put together we tend to crumble. So, he suggested us just recording an EP of our acoustic songs. It's a start, right? We have tons and tons of ideas for acoustic songs... so why not? He's on his break til December and I'm not encountering any BIG examinations anytime soon. Lena is on her break (Though she's in Pahang right now for her Community Med thingy.) and Afroze would be quite free soon.

The time is to strike now, or forever hold our peace... Yeeeahhhh. Easy to say, not easy to do.

I hope things would work out for Ardens. I miss this darn band! I miss hitting them snares and toms and cymbals. What the heck, man? I want a drumset!
Daddy, I want a drum set when I graduate! :(
(Like that would ever happen. Err.. I meant about me getting the drum set. Of course I'll graduate! Think positive people!)

So, Afiq said that we could do the demo anytime starting now. Woopie!~
We've got 2 new acoustic songs: "Fool Me" & "Okay On My Own".
Plus the old songs: "Forsaken", "Lepaskanlah" & "Afterglow".
Plus we could do cover songs, too: "More Than Words", "Conspiracy", "Here We Go Again" & many many more.

We just gotta keep our melodies in-check then we could give it a go.

Oh man, I'm so excited! Can't wait.

Take care, Reader.

Yours Sincerely,

Leanna Darwin.

I Called A Friend... And I Got Hung Up?!

Omg! I'm really P.O.ed right now!

I just called A, and he totally hung up on me. OUCH! Talk about total rudeness.

Hmph.

I tried calling a lot of times but he still refused to return my calls. Boleh tak tolong jangan merajuk macam budak kecik? I wonder hoe he could survie with his girlfriend with that kinda attitude. Oh my bad, I'm not his girlfriend so that's why I don't get THAT special treatment.

I was so upset when he hung up. I couldn't stop feeling upset so took a nice warm shower to cool myself off. Yup.. this late at night. It's a wonder how I didn't experience any supernatural activity while I showered. I mean, it's not like I

ve experienced any yet. (Not that I'd want to anyhow.)

So, I called Afroze and Asrul both asking them what's the deal with A. Apparently they both don't know much.
Afroze - Been kinda M.I.A. ever since the Fete de la Musique.
Asrul - Doesn't want to get caught up in this tangled web. *Sigh*

They both said they'll try to get through to him. Thanks you two! Sorry to disturb you around this time of night. I just gotta know be cause me and my sis were thinking of quitting the band. Plus, I called him to ask for Lena's guitar back and to tell him that we're quitting the band.

Oh shoot! I forgot to call Lena back. After I finish blogging then....

I'm really tired because today I've had a full day.

Morning - I had to clean up Toks' place because of the hi-tea this weekend. I cleaned downstairs and upstairs. Although, the house is still full of junks! Not my doing people, not my doing.

Afternoon - Went to Amcorp Mall to pick up Mommy and pick out the family photos. Now that took a while.

Evening - Dad's place. Ate like a pig. Bought Subway (I'm a sucker for tuna. So gentlemen, the way to my heart is through my stomach. HA-HA!) and ate more of Aunty Nurie's cooking. Yummy!

Night - Cycled for 45 minutes. And studied a bit. Called A... and you know the drill.

Shoot! My laptop is out of battery!

Ciao!

Bad Friend Alert!

Man, I don't know why I'm so pissed right now. I can't seem to focus on my studies right now. I'm mostly upset about Ardens. I can't believe that everything's gone down the drain. All the hardwork put into the music that we made. It sucks, but I'll live.

...........It still sucks, though.

A acted like such a jerk. Yeah, JERK! He's pretty self-centered and doesn't listen to any of our views. When I say "our", I mean the other band mates. And when I say "other band mates", I mean only me and my sis. Honestly, I feel like he's just using us.

Sikit-sikit Af, Af, Af and Af je. Bosan! Plus they have the members of V supporting them all the way. Grrr...

Puh-lease, I don't give a two craps if they wanna submit their songs on the radio but "is holding back because they want us to submit our songs together". I still have this vibe and instinct voicing out that they're taking A away. And the funny thing is A is still oblivious (Or so he says.) to the fact that V is slowly inserting him permanently into V. Tchyeah... like you could be so dumb to not realize it, huh?

Ugh.

I don't care if they want to take A.... just frickin' admit it will ya'? Don't keep on using the he's-just-temporary-until-we-find-a-new-lead-guitarist crap, okay? They found a new drummer to replace I quickly.... I had squeezed my brain bone-dry thinking of a reason for why they hadn't found a new guitarist. If they could find a drummer quickly, I'm sure a guitarist wouldn't be half as hard.

We're not even that good yet and A always wants to push us to go all the way. It's a good thing, if we're ready. But the fact is.... we're NOT ready. *Sigh*

We can dream, but never dream TOO big. Make it a realistic one, not something that's pretty farfetched. See? Now things are left like this. An unspoken war is amongst us. We're dissatisfied about his behaviour... and I'm definitely certain that he's dissatisfied about ours.

He always thinks about himself. I told him that that weekend our schedule was packed so he had better plan carefully. Even that, he can't do. He can definitely not lead. He's not a born leader. If he is so, then he would need a lot of advisors surrounding him, sharp and ever so watchful. Every move he makes will be scrutinized, criticized, pulverized and re-organized. Omg. Now I'm being the jerk here for gossiping about him. But I just can't take it anymore. He can't seem to respect my space. Always showing up at the front step without prior notice. Always messaging when I'm on vacay. Please, dude. Respect my space. I have a life outside of music. You should, too.

Put aside all that, he is a nice guy. And a dear friend. It's hard to deal with a person who would never take into account other's suggestions, other than their own.

Kill me now. I have sinned. I'm a bad friend.

CIAO!~

I'm A Wacko! *SSsssssomebody sssstop me*

Hey there my fellow short-listed Readers!
How are you today? Hope all is well. All is not so swell for lil ol' me. Too much drama for me. But I thank God that it's nothing like the drama experienced in B&B. (Dude, it goes on like fer-eva!)

Ok, so here's the deal-ee-yo.

Much has happened since I last blogged. Too much. To make the long story short, I'll just summarize it in 50 words or less.

Weddings, happy, family, photos, cousins, money gone, studying sucks, holidays, no laptop, arguments, not speaking to one another, build up self-confidence, no Ardens for me please, Paramore rules!!, loser alert, friends my ass, self-absorbed looney, bills unpaid, need Astro, need work, need money, here I come exams.

Bet 'cha didn't think I would summarize it in that way now, did ya'? Well, if you could put two and two together then I assume you could probably figure out what I'm trying to pin-point here, yes? Yes.

Pssst. Here's a clue: I'm broke!

Alright. So, since I managed to summarize all that, need I say anything more? Nope.

Ciao!~

Hey hey hey people!

Yesterday night, we did a performance at the Fete de la Musique. It was not that bad. I guess we did okay. You can check it out on YouTube.

If you know my band's name then you can check it out.. if not.. too bad.

Our band is real tight with the band "Velcro".

Here's the connection: -

VELCRO:
Eugene ---> Band leader/vocals/rhythm guitar

Asrul ---> Bassist

Izzet ---> Drummer

Afiq ---> Temporary lead guitarist

Our band:
Afiq ---> Band leader/lead guitarist

Afroze ---> Vocals

Farah ---> Bassist/vocals

Sarah ---> Drummer

The connection:

Afiq plays as the lead in Velcro (temporarily) but is the band leader for our band.
Eugene is the band leader for Velcro but his sister was our ex-vocalist/Asrul's ex-GF.
Asrul now has a thing for Afroze.
Afroze has a thing for Asrul, too.
Izzet and I used to date.
Izzet's recent ex-GF is Afroze's BFF but they still have a thing for one another.
Almost every gig Velcro participates in, our band also participates.
Last but not least, Asrul is our unofficial band manager.

See what I mean? We're kinda linked with them in many ways. You can check us all out on Myspace.

Anyways, Velcro performed at 8pm yesterday. It was kinda sad because their songs are good, but the drums were off. I mean really off. The tempo was faster than usual so because of that the it wasn't in sync. Poor Eugene. They're all upset about that tempo problem.

My advice to them is to find a new drummer. Sorry, if it sounds too harsh or whatever but I'm speaking truthfully. It's either Izzet gets his act together and stop acting selfish or he gets voted off the island. You dig?

Can't say that my band was also "the bomb" either because our tempo was off, too. But the difference is that our whole band was off-tempo as a band. To elaborate, I mean that all of us were off-tempo but did it in sync. LOL. We're a bunch of losers. :p

I don't know, but when you're on stage you suddenly get this energy from the crowd and your so full of this adrenaline rush you just feel more energetic. It's hard to explain it, but that's how we all felt. Yesterday night was our first time performing with Afroze (Our new vocalist.) but I gotta say that I'm really proud of her!!! She fita perfectly with the band. We just have this chemistry. It's cool!

But we were also kinda bummed that night because of the previous bands that weren't professional at all. And when I say not professional, I'm not saying that they weren't good. I mean that their attitude needs a bit of tweaking.

One of the band played like 20 *Slight exaggeration* songs! Each band had only 15 minutes to perform, so that means you can either perform 3 or 4 or even 5 songs. Not 45 minutes!!! C'mon! Be professional will you?!

The other band performed jibberish. They weren't even performing songs. They were literally singing "Lalalalala-wawawawawa-woohoowoohoowoohoo". Not kidding! It made us so upset because if they weren't serious, they shouldn't have perfomred on stage at all. It was close to 12am by then. We were all so tired. Farah's friends were way past their curfew. Yikes! We felt so guilty for keeping them out for so long.

Anyways, I heard that the band performed that way because they were upset about the previous band that performed 45 minutes and I suppose they wanted to get back at the organizers or something. They even did a "fire" show. You know, where you breathe fire kinda thing. Weird. And not to mention, scary.

So when we finally performed, we weren't that scared and nervous anymore because of our anger. But it quickly subsided when we got on stage. Phew!~

That's all folks.

p/s: We're gonna be recording our demo sometime next month. So watch out world!~ LOL

Peace!~

Annual Ball

Hey there!

Just wanna keep you updated about things here.

Here goes.......

Just a few weeks ago, Violet, the band I'm in, did a performance at SMKSS17's prom. It was ok, I guess. One thing's for sure, they WEREN'T good at organizing it. I mean seriously, the opening act was a disappointment. Not because the band wasn't any good but it was because when they were actually playing the Phantom of the Opera song (Which goes well with the theme that they chose. Regal Masquerade or something like that. I can't recall.) the committee let the people in and led them to their seats. It was bad. Why? Because they were performing on stage and the people were just sitting or about to sit down and were talking and stuff. Aren't you supposed to let the people sit first then, only then, do the opening act? Sheesh!

Anyway, Violet was supposed to be either the 3rd act or so, but something happened which I'm quite unsure of, so they had to push us to the opening act.

We sure as hell weren't ready. It was too sudden. We asked them whether they could let the real opening act performers do the performance again. But the band refused because they said it would be a waste of time. We all thought that when they did the performance before that, people might've thought that they were still doing their soundcheck or something. Kesian gila ok.So, after much pestering here and there we finally decide to just give it a go. They gave us like 5 to 10 minutes to set up our gear then off we go.

How did the performance go? We sucked la.

But the energy we got from the crowd was amazing! They were really sporting. Our juniors, Killa and Amy and the others were a real help. Thank god they weren't like malu-malu kucing to dance on the dance floor. They are cheerleaders, so they're used to dancing in front of people. (Go, Go Valkyries!)

We played our song Fairytales first, followed by Mocca's song "My Only One". Now that one was quite a hit. The peeps were really feeling that song. Which was great for us because of the energy we get from our audiences. Nennie did well because she totally rocked the stage. She even hi-fived someone while she was singing on stage. LOL.

We didn't perform that good, though. Our tempo was off, we played differently than how we practised in the studio, and each of us did our share of mistakes. But we did have a good time. :)After performing, we walked around the Sheraton Subang hotel for a while. We kept on going in and out of the ballroom. Walking was good for us, but what good does it do to us if we walked on an empty stomach? We were hungry. One of Afiq's friend told us to just eat the food there or not it would go to waste. And we wouldn't want that to happen now, do we? Hey, free food doesn't come by everyday, you know. We jumped right to it. But the food were a bit too simple. My stomach wasn't really up for it. Finger sandwiches, muffins, bihun and some other.

The meal was free right? Because we definitely didn't pay to perform that night. But then just a few days ago, Afiq told us that the head of the committee called and asked RM50 from each of the member because we ate the food.

Uh-huh.... Yeah sure we'll pay. When hell freezes over. Or even when pigs fly. Sorry. But we just ain't gonna pay. And that's that.

Yesterday, it was my college's Annual Ball. We did a performance there, too. We wanted to gather as much experiences and exposure that we can get from different crowds. But we had to pay to perform there, of course. Not cheap, I tell ya. Since I'm a student there I get a cheaper rate. RM60. And if I bring a date, my date gets the same rate. So, I invited Lena to be my date. Afiq, Nennie, Acap and Izzet had to pay RM80 because they were outsiders.

Ok, here's how it went yesterday.

The night before, Afiq, Nennie and I couldn't sleep well. (Unlike Lena, and I quote, "I slept like a baby.") Afiq couldn't sleep at all. He had been given air zamm zamm to calm his nerves. I don't know if it worked but I heard that he didn't really get to sleep at all. Nennie, on the other hand, slept only 2 hours. Or was it 4 hours? Ugh, my brain really doesn't work sometimes. And I slept around 3.00am till 7.00am. You see, the committee told us that the soundcheck was at 10am. We didn't want to make a bad impression, so we planned to be there on time, if not early.

The plan was to meet at Subang KTM at 8.30am and we might arrive in Times Square prolly around 9-ish. But sadly, due to the lack of sleep, we were a bit later than what was originally planned.

Lena and I rushed from our KJ apartment to Subang to send Ritz to Toks and walk to KTM with Afiq while helping him to carry the bass guitar. But because we were running a little late and we needed to get some cash from the ATM, and I also needed to reload my Touch 'n Go, we had to drive to Carrefour instead. We passed by Starbucks on the way to the ATM and I saw Suraya and waved to her. (Which reminds me, I have to work on the 25th. Triple pay, baby!) We rushed to the ATM and then to the KTM.

We reached the station, and saw Nennie waiting for us there. I think she was a bit upset because we were kinda late. Sorry, Nennie! When we got on the train, people were staring at us because of the instruments we were carrying. Me, with my drumsticks. Lena and Afiq, with their guitars. I bet they think we;re posers or something. Whatever. Also saw Ambiga at the Subang platform waiting for the train to Sentral. She's one of the committee.

Took the Monorail to Imbi. Got a bit lost in Times Square because we couldn't find the hotel. Hahahahaha. The idiots, we were.Finally, after asking around we found the hotel. Came to the ballroom, saw that the equipments weren't set up yet. So we just practised accoustic versions of the songs. It sounded nice. There was this one time I was coming from the toilet to the spot where we were practising, I heard Nennie's voice and I thought, "Wow! She's got a strong set of vocals." The soundcheck got pushed to 12pm because the equipment came late. But soundchecked at about 3pm-ish. We played a little and were asked to stop to let other performers do their soundcheck. But Kumar let us soundcheck at around 5pm. So, me and Lena had to zoom off from Times Square to Sentral to Subang to KJ to Subang back then back to Times Square in just like two and a half hours.

We felt like dying. Primo, because of our lack of sleep. Secundo, we only ate breakfast - No lunch! Tertio, we were running around a lot which totally drained our energy. Lena and I were scared that we wouldn't perform well because of exhaustion. We went to Subang to pick up our things for the performance. We went to KJ to pick up the tickets for the dinner (Which I totally forgot about!) or else we can't enter. Went back to Subang to pick up Izzet. He said that he'd be at Carrefour by 4.30pm because I told him that we were running behind schedule. We needed the 5pm soundcheck because we just felt like weren't ready to perform. Izzet came like around 4.45pm because he had transport problem, I guess. As we were waiting for him, Lena and I was just shouting in the car. Not arguing. But just as a stress-release moment. We weren't feeling all-sunshine-and-rainbow at all. More like feeling the hurricane and thunderstorm! When Izzet finally came, we were both still not in a good mood. Because :-

1. we were exhausted (Main factor!)
2. we were scared about not performing well.
3. we were hungry.
4. we were scared not arriving on time for the soundcheck due to KL traffic.
5. we were worried about the equipments.

But it was a good thing that Izzet was there to lighten our moods a bit with his silly jokes. :p

We arrived in Times Square at about 5.30pm (Just as how Izzet had predicted! Amazing!) and went directly to look for the hotel. As usual, we got lost for a short while. Honestly, that was like my first and second time going to Times Square. Yeah, yeah. I've never been there before. Now that I've seen it, I want to test out the rollercoaster there! But who wants to accompany me??? Almost everyone I know has at least ridden it once. Anyone game? E-mail me at iamatimessquarevirginnomore@ts.com or call me at 1-800-TIMES-SQUARE-VIRGIN-NO-MORE. (What the heck am I crapping here?!)

Anyway, We met up with Afiq and Nennie and the gang on the 14th floor. They looked really beat. And so did we. We entered the ballroom to find that no one I know was there. I thought that we had to have at least a member of the committee present in order for us to soundcheck. No one was around so we just did our own soundchecked.In a way, it was good for us to do the soundcheck. It sorta pumped us up for the performance. Seriously, before the soundcheck I could tell that we were all not up for performing. The equipments weren't fully equipped because we had to wait for Adam;s band to lend us the equipments and gadgets and stuff. We just soundchecked without it. We still didn't get the tempo and beat right. But we just kept on playing. I think we played like for more than an hour! It was like free jamming for us. As we were playing, it didn't occur to us that it was almost time for the guests to arrive. We were still playing noisily inside while without us knowing, there were people already outside awaiting to be seated. Mirna had to come in and inform us to get ready and stop playing. Whoopsy.

We got out of the ballroom and saw a lot of people already looking handsome and pretty with their formal attires waiting outside the ballroom. Uhhhh... and we were in our T-shirts and jeans and shorts. What a sight!

Before anything, Vijhay told me to at least get a table first since we didn't book a table. So I did. Then we set off to the toilet to change. It took me like about almost an hour to change. Hahahaha. Stoopid girl.

When we got out we felt a bit fresher. Maybe because we had freshened up and changed our outfits for the dinner. We didn't enter the ballroom until it was almost 9pm. Nennie had two of her friends there to support us so she couldn't leave them outside just because they didn't have tickets. She's a really good friend. Inside, we noticed that our table had been taken! So, we were standing around like stupid idiots with no table. The six of us. Table-less. Izzet acted as a perfect gentleman and looked for the committee members to sort the mess up. They did the best they could. What could they do anyway? People were already eating. They couldn't ask the people who took our table to get up and leave because that would be rude. (I felt kinda guilty because we also stole someone's table because of this slight mishap. Ugh! What a day!)

I lost my appetite to eat. I only ate two bites from the fillet. Lena helped finish the rest of the food on my plate. I was seriously hungry, you know because I only ate breakfast at McD's with Lena, Afiq and Nennie. But because of the exhaustion, confusion and nervousness I was feeling, I couldn't eat. I just drank four sips of orange juice. Izzet told me to eat at least something because I would need the energy, but I swear I couldn't. Nennie also looked like she lost her appetite. Lena was eating happily. Afiq, too. We were supposed to perform already but I told the committees that we couldn't perform without Adam's equipments. It would just sounds flat, empty and HORRIBLE! They understood and they had to keep pushing back our performance. Kesian gila tengok.

That night, they announced the nominees for Mr and Mrs BAC. I only recognized Jai, Hazrina and Sabrina. Others I don't know at all. Congrats to the three of you for those nominations. (Izzet told me later on that he voted for Jai and Sabrina. Because we didn't vote for anyone.) There was this accoustic performance that I was really spell-bound by. She sang the "Zombie" song by The Cranberries. I love that song! That song was one of the first few songs that I learned and performed in school. Awesome performance there. The voice..... sedap gila!!!!

When Adam finally arrived, it was time to gear up. We checked and adjusted some of the equipments to feel more comfortable. We made sure everything was ok to perform. Felt nervous but hyped up at the same time.

"Here we go.... The moment of truth." I thought.

Nennie introduced the band. And off we go.Telescope Eyes by Eisley was the first song followed by My Only One by Mocca and our two songs, Fairytales and Forsaken. I felt a slight pang! at the sight of the people leaving the ballroom as we started to perform. But I had to focus on the music and not the people. If they don't like the music we play, then it's good for them to leave. As they say, "The show must go on"!

Thanks to the peeps who did stick around for the performance and supported us. Muahz muahz muahz muahz. I wish I could kiss you all, really. You have my e-mail and my number. LOL.

A million, gazillion thanks to Nennie's friends, Afiq's friend, Izzet and the members of Lethal Doses. By the way, Lethal Doses rocks, man! Especially the drummer. Great talent there, I tell ya.Not forgetting Violet. They rock, too. LOL. We didn't stick around long enough to see who won Mr and Mrs BAC. Anyone reading this knows, please do tell. I also wonder whether this time they did the open-floor session for the night. Last time they did. I like that part of the dinner. That way the students could rock the night away. Dance to the beat till the break of dawn, baby! Lena, Izzet and I wanted to dance but i guess we had a full day and just wanted to hit the road so we left kinda early. Nennie and her pals left earlier than us because she was meeting her friends somewhere to hang out.

Anyway, I just hope people enjoyed the songs we performed that night. Because we did enjoy performing on stage that night, despite the fact that some people had walked out.

Afiq, get more gigs please! That Johor one is okay, too. But we'd have to stay at a bugdet hotel, of course. :p

Nitey!~

Forsaken

Yay! We've finally finished composing our second song. Afiq came over at 8.30pm to practice the new song. He brought his guitar, and I showed him the lyrics I made.

After listening to his melody I figured that the lyrics I made won't mash, so I decided to re-compose it. After hours and hours of figuring how to mash it... the moment of EUREEKA!!! finally came.

We figured out a new melody that fits with the guitar chords. Awesome!

We don't know what to call the song yet. After listening to the lyrics... he decided to call the song "Forsaken". But it's a work-in-progress kinda thing.

The first song we composed was called "Fairytale Ends Tonight" and we performed it at the Yamaha Asian Beat competition the other day at Qbar, Sunway Pyramid. It was ok, xcept for the fact that the people there didn't really like the type of music we play. They're mostly old people, so of course they wouldn't dig our indie/punk rock style. But the younger kids there enjoyed it. They even sang along with us. How'd they know the lyrics? It's simple.

Our chorus, we just repeated the words. It's catchy so it ain't hard to follow. That's the whole point of us creating the lyrics that way. Catchy tune with catchy lyrics. Well, for us its catchy but obviously for all those Heavy metal/Jazz/Blues fans-a-roony, they didn't really like it. Hmmm..
At least the kids did!

We didn't win, of course. But it's a good experience. I like performing in front of crowds. The adrenaline you get from the nerve-wrecking feeling of performing in front of a big audience rocks. Apart from our inexperienced vocalist, we did ok. She should've rehearsed more, I think. She sings off-key sometimes. Which is ok, I suppose, since that was her first ever gig. Many more to come.

Prom for SMKSS17 is coming up. Our band will be performing. Hopefully our new song would be finished by then so we could perform both of our songs there and see how the audience react towards it. Think positive. Think positive. Woo-sah.

BAC Gala Night coming up, too. When is the audition? They didn't tell me. And the dinner is on the 22nd of December. Sigh. I hate it when they plan last minute like this. Makes us feel that we're left in the shadow. When's the audition???

If we don't get it, what's the point of going to the Gala Night anyway. The other collegemates ain't going, so why should I? Humph.

Anyways, I gotta go study now. Afiq was here from 8.30m til 12.00am. I didn't have time to study because before Afiq came, I was too busy downloading songs into this stupid laptop. Lagging nak mampus!!!!

Adioz!
